Rango, Rwanda – May 2021 – On May 9, at the Salesian parish of “St. John Bosco” in Rango, Butare, Bishop Philippe Rukamba, Bishop of the Diocese of Butare, presided over the blessing and inauguration of the fully renovated parish church.

The renovation of the old church, where the first Mass had been celebrated at Christmas 1986, was made possible thanks to the efforts of the parishioners and the Salesian Vice-Province of the Great Lakes Region (AGL). The renovations took a long time due to the pandemic.

Fr. Pierre-Célestin Ngoboka, Superior of the AGL Vice-Province, speaking about the uncertainty in which the work began, recalled the circumstances in which Don Bosco built great churches, quoting the saint’s historic phrase about Mary Help of Christians: “It is she who has done everything.”

The parish priest of Rango, Fr. Remy Nsengiyumva, then recalled the history of this commendable initiative of fully renovating the old church
